How does the Business Support Initiative work?

Once your initial application has been accepted, the Initiative Manager will arrange for an Independent Assessor (an experienced business person) to carry out a free business review on your business project. The Assessor will then spend time with you in order to determine problems and identify opportunities and a business review will be undertaken to confirm eligibility for the scheme.

The Assessor will offer advice on how best to take advantage of the Support Initiative and draw attention to other forms of help available, which may be appropriate to your needs, from the public or private sector. You will then receive a copy of the Assessor's report.

Next, the Assessor's report is sent to USE, where the Initiative Manager will match your needs to one of the listed consultants. Alternatively, you may request a particular consultant.

The Initiative Manager will oversee and approve the Terms of References agreed between you and the consultant to ensure that you receive the best help on offer. The Terms of Reference contain a detailed programme of work, together with a work schedule, against which the project can be monitored. USE will assess the overall project and be available to offer help at all times.
